Ironically, the first thing that must be addressed for real organizational change is not a lack of skills, but resistance to change.
This usually has two causes: ignorance of the potential and a lack of understanding of the mechanics of the solution. This chapter will address this topic. We will introduce you to the basic business, mathematics, and technology concepts you’ll need to make the most of the rest of the chapters. You will understand the historical evolution of the business and startup ecosystem, its current direction, and exactly what competitive advantages can be achieved through measurement.
After this first chapter, you’ll have the groundwork to begin your organization’s path toward digital transformation and the philosophy you and your team need to commit to 100%.
Module 2: What to measure
We know the necessary fundamentals and that we want to be data-driven, but what exactly are the important data and information?
This chapter will guide you through the growth roadmap for startups created by Sean Ellis, founder of Dropbox, and teach you exactly which metrics and qualitative information are needed to move up the business growth pyramid, from product-market fit to the growth transition and viral growth. You'll understand exactly what information must be collected and how to obtain it.
After this chapter, you'll know how to audit any knowledge architecture and diagnose which data is missing to ensure success. You’ll be able to diagnose which data collection processes are necessary.
Module 3: Where to measure
In the previous chapter, you learned what data to collect for any business to be successful; now you need the knowledge to store it and access it, no matter its size.
In this chapter, you’ll learn the technical tools used by data engineers and cloud architects that the giants use (and that, in fact, are very accessible for anyone) so that your data is available, usable, stable, and sustainable in your company.
After this chapter, you’ll lose any inferiority complex you might have about the possibilities big data can offer you, you'll be able to understand any data project presented to you, and you’ll have enough knowledge to explore your own path to success. You'll learn what data infrastructures look like and what they're for.
Module 4: How to measure
Now that we know what information we need to collect and where to store it, we move on to the chapter that will give you the knowledge to monetize information. Here we will learn about the different types of projects that exist, from low-risk descriptive analytics to the most advanced applications of artificial intelligence and prescriptive analytics.
In this chapter, you’ll learn to assess the difficulty of available projects, when you should embark on them, and how to approach them so your team achieves success and, above all, makes your data profitable.
Module 5: Who to measure
The final skill a data-driven entrepreneur needs is learning to recruit and coordinate effectively with their team of technical engineers and analysts, learning agile methodologies and how to implement them effectively, learning to find talent even on a limited budget, and how to build a resilient team that will lead you to success.
